Three Holiday Treats for the Pups in Your Life!

Peanut Butter Pup Christmas Cookies

I don’t know about other families, but in our family peanut butter cookies are a Christmas staple. The Christmas dessert spread is not complete without them. But we don’t want to leave out the Poop Troop Pups so I found this dog safe peanut butter cookie recipe for them!

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • Mix ingredients: Combine flour, peanut butter and applesauce in a large mixing bowl. Add stock and stir until well-combined. The dough will be thick. Once combined use your hands to press the dough into a ball

  • Place dough ball on a flat surface (with a sprinkle of flour if needed) and roll out evenly with a rolling pin. Dough should be about 1/4 inch thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut the dough into desired shape and place on baking sheet.

  • Bake: Bake for 18 minutes or until golden brown and dry. Larger cookies may need to bake longer.

As an added bonus, I tracked down a frosting recipe that can be drizzled over your Dog Cookies.

  • To make the frosting, combine the peanut butter and honey in a microwavable bowl, and heat in the microwave in 15 second increments, stirring in between, until melted.

  • Add the melted peanut butter mixture to the cornstarch and stir until combined.

  • Slowly add in the water 1 tablespoon at a time until you have reached the consistency that you would like. For a thinner frosting, add more water.

  • Add the frosting to a piping bag and pipe designs on top of each dog treat.

  • Store in an airtight container and freeze excess.

Meat Lovers Christmas Treats

Is your dog more of a meat lover? I dug up a recipe for beef based treats, just for them.

  • Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.

  • Cook your ground beef and diced green beans in a large skillet over medium heat until they are browned.

  • Add in your pumpkin puree to the beef mixture, stirring until mixed well.

  • In a bowl, add your uncooked oats and enough water to moisten them. Heat the oats in the microwave for 45 seconds to cook. Remove the oats from the microwave and stir. If they are dry, add a small amount of water until they are moist.

  • Add your oats to the beef mixture and stir well.

  • Remove the beef, green bean, oat mixture from the heat and let cool.

  • Line your cookie sheets with parchment or silicone mat.

  • Once your beef mixture has cooled, add in your beaten eggs. The mixture should be slightly wet.

  • Place your cookie cutters onto your lined pan and fill the half full with your beef mixture. Be sure to press the filling down to fill out your design.

  • Gently remove from dog biscuit. Use your fingers to re-shape if some of the beef mixture comes off with biscuit cutter. Repeat until all mixture is used.

  • Bake for 25 minutes at 350F degrees. After 25 minutes, turn oven down to 200F degrees and continue baking for 1 and 1/2 hours.

  • For crispier dog biscuits, leave in oven after baking until cooled.

  • Let dog biscuits cool completely on cookie sheets before giving to your dog.

Store in an airtight container in your refrigerator until ready to give to your pups as a treat.

The Poop Troop Pup's Holiday Ice Cookies

And finally, the Poop Troop Pup’s FAVORITE. These doggos go NUTS over ice cookies. You can’t go to our freezer without getting puppy dog eyes. So I found a fancier, more festive ice cookie recipe for them.

  • Combine peanut butter and fresh parsley/mint in a small bowl. Set aside.

  • Pour chicken stock into a silicone tray. Fill each section ½ way. Freeze until set (about 1 hour)

  • Spoon the peanut butter mixture on top of frozen chicken stock until full. Freeze until hard (4+ hours)

  • Remove from silicone molds. Serve to your pup!
